Protest

Thanks to everybody for their support to date. We are fighting this battle on a legal, engineering and political front. Any HELP is welcomed.

PLEASE NOTE CHANGE OF TIME. PROTEST AT 2PM OUTSIDE FERMOY COURTHOUSE.

We will be gathering outside the courthouse at 1.45pm then marching through the town to the Weir

We now have two premises in the town dedicated to Saving The Weir and we will man them every Saturday until common sense prevails. Please protest to your local politicians. Remember, the E.U. and local council elections are this June.

We are planning a major protest march in Fermoy on Saturday 13th of December and need ALL CLUBS to attend, rowing, tri-athalon, sub-aqua, all water and land based clubs. Gearoid Towey, four time Olympian, is travelling from London to lead the march at 2pm on December 13th. We want to get all types of boats on the river.

Some rowing clubs are arranging training sessions in Cork and Fermoy that morning. How about your club? Bring your banners, flags, drums and trailers. Please spread the word to all your friends and colleagues.

We get one shot at this protest and appeal to you to please take the time to show your support and voice your opinion, we know that life is very busy these days and you all have commitments, but this is a real chance for us to unite and really make a difference, the bigger the turn out, the greater the impact.

Our protest has united the town and made us stronger, “We have not gone away

SAVE FERMOY WEIR

Responses

  1. Save Fermoy’s most photogenic and attractive tourist attraction

  2. save the weir and all the water sports, its part of the town and must be kept!

  3. 700 HUNDRED years, why fix what is not broken!
I spent most of my childhood summers on the river Blackwater, up river from the weir. I transgressed the river from Ballyhooley to Fermoy on many different flotation devices, mostly home made rafts. If the general intention is to help wildlife, I strongly suggest that the water level be left as it is. The entire ecological structure, as it is depends on the status Quo. If the water level lowers at Fermoy, physical man made changes would have to be made up river are they in the plan?
I fear a domino effect, with catastrophic outcome for wildlife especially the salmon.

  4. Fermoy Rowing Club has surely done nothing but bring credit and regard to the town of Fermoy, year in and year out. Whatever ‘Positive’ is being sought, by the proposed removal of the weir, would be nothing compared to the negative message it would give to the young aspiring athletes of Fermoy and the disregard it would show to the generations who have worked so hard to keep Fermoy RC the recurring ‘Surprise Package’ of many National Championships.
Knocking the Weir would be a Lazy, Cheapskate Engineering solution. Don’t Do It!

  5. I really feel that it is a disgrace that other options should not be considered and wish to register my protest.

  6. Though i can not be at the protest march because I’m on the missions in Ecuador, I really feel strongly about the proposal and would wish all options to be tried before the destruction of the weir takes place. it is time that the people’s voice be heard in this dehumanised world.
